Are you looking for strategies to support your students who are learning using digital resources? Whether you are using D2L to support your face-to-face teaching, teaching blended, or completely online, we have some tips and resources for you!
By the end of this workshop you will be able to:
- Articulate the difference between digital learning skills and digital literacy skills.
- Identify the top 10 (or more) digital learning skills your students need to succeed.
- Integrate digital learning skills strategies for your students into your teaching.
Homework
Before coming to the face-to-face session of this workshop, we would like you to read three (3) of the online articles we have listed below so you can come prepared to identify two or three digital skills that your students need to have.
Note that we ask you DO NOT PRINT these articles, but rather read them electronically, while considering how you might retain the information you read. Better yet, try reading the articles on your mobile devices (especially on your phones). These activities themselves will give you further insight into some of the issues facing your students.
We will spend the last part of the face-to-face workshop discussing your findings, so come prepared for this discussion!

Your Facilitators
Emily Schudel is an Instructional Designer in the eLearning unit of the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Camosun College. She has been an instructional designer for over 20 years, primarily supporting faculty to integrate online technologies into their face-to-face, blended, and fully online courses. Emily’s current area of interest is supporting faculty wanting to create or adapt Open Educational Resources (OER) for their courses.
Chrisa Hotchkiss teaches learning skills and supervises Camosun’s writing centres. She has worked in education for over 30 years in the following capacities: university learning centre director; college/university writing instructor; college/university writing tutor; and educational textbook editor. Chrisa is currently focussed on helping faculty incorporate learning skills into their curriculum.
